Type Oomycete
Pest Classification Is seed a pathway in this crop? No
Main literature references 5-20, 5-125
Remarks Pythium is a ubiquitous soil-borne pathogen. No references found indicating seed as a pathway for Pythium spp. in cucumber. There is one dated report of an association of Pythium aphanidermatum with Cucurbita seed in germination tests. However, seed as a pathway was not established. The normal harvesting (avoiding infected fruit), cleaning, and sanitization of cucumber seed would remove the threat of the fungus being associated with seed. Available information indicates there is no scientific basis for regulation of Pythium spp. on cucumber seed.
