Crop Lettuce
Pest Scientific Name Mycocentrospora acerina
Additional Info
Complementary Info Synonym: Cercospora acerina
Type Fungus
Pest Classification Is seed a pathway in this crop? No
Main literature references 6-5, 6-134, 6-152
Remarks No references found indicating seed as a pathway for M. acerina in lettuce. The fungus is commonly found in soil. Very closely related to Cercospora longissima. M. acerina cause a leaf spot and root disease in lettuce but is more common as a storage rot on carrot and celery. Seed has been reported as a pathway for M. acerina in caraway (Carum carvi), however, the presence of the fungus in soil was considered more important. Available information indicates there is no scientific basis for regulation of M. acerina on lettuce seed.
