Remarks Causal agent of anthracnose in cucurbits. Squash and pumpkin are less susceptible than watermelon, melon and cucumber. Seed as a pathway has been proven for cucumber, however, no direct references on Cucurbita spp were found. Numerous references simply suggest that seed is a pathway in Cucurbita spp. but no data is supplied. The current practices in seed production would greatly reduce the potential for seed contamination. Avoiding infected fruit at harvest, cleaning and sanitization of Cucurbita spp. seed are practices that are routinely applied. The perfect stage of Colletotrichum orbiculare is rarely found in nature.
